Bending the Arc of History Towards Justice in the Probate Court – Terry Franklin Speaks to Beverly Hills Bar Association Trusts & Estates Section

Partner Terry Franklin is presenting his riveting talk "Bending the Arc of History Towards Justice in the Probate Court" to the Beverly Hills Bar Association Trusts & Estates Section on June 15. The webinar will discuss the research that led Franklin to uncover that his fourth great-grandmother, Lucy, and her offspring were emancipated from slavery in a will from 1846, and how this led him to dig deeper into how the probate process played an important role in his family’s fate. He will share how he uncovered the stories of three other black women, all contemporaries of Lucy, whose lives were deeply impacted by anti-racist legal strategies that played out in the probate courts of the antebellum south. Franklin discusses their stories to inspire attendees to ask themselves how anti-racism might be applied to their professional practices. Attendees will receive one hour of Elimination of Bias credit.
