Terry Franklin Presents “Bending the Arc of History Towards Justice” to the Los Angeles Paralegal Association
Partner Terry Franklin is presenting "Bending the Arc of History Towards Justice" to the Los Angeles Paralegal Association (LAPA) on April 27, 2021. Franklin discovered a will contest from the 1840s that challenged the will done by his fourth great-grandfather that emancipated Franklin’s fourth great-grandmother and her children and grandchildren. This discovery led Franklin to define his mission, "To Bend the Arc of History Towards Justice" by sharing the story of his ancestors and other stories like theirs. In this presentation, Franklin recounts the riveting story of his ancestor Lucy Sutton and her fight in the courts to uphold the last will and testament, and he also profiles several other black women, contemporaries of Lucy, who just may have helped Lucy and her family make it to freedom. Attendees will receive one hour of MCLE credit.
LAPA is dedicated to developing, strengthening, and advancing the paralegal profession. LAPA was formed in 1972 by local paralegals in response to the growing need for an organized professional association throughout the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
